The Membership of Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom (MRCP (UK)) has chosen Aster Medcity as its permanent centre for conducting the Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills (PACES), the final qualifying examination for obtaining the MRCP (UK) Diploma. Kochi, August 13, 2016: Aster Medcity today  organized a  cyclothon  to  mark Organ Donation Day to promote awareness aboutorgan donation. The cyclothon was flagged off from   Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Kadavanthara  in the morning by  prominent cinestar MR Kunchacko Boban and Dr. Harish Pillai, CEO, Aster Medcity. The 10 km. ride over South Overbridge and onto M. G. Road, then via Marine Drive ended at the stadium. Aster Medcity  also instituted an annual award of excellence in the name of Bhavana Lakshmi ,a   six  year student of St Mary’s UP School ,Chitoor who donated her organs after  death  last year. The award certificate was handed over to Mr Murthy , father of Bhavana Lakshmi and Ms Shajimol  K Thomas , Headmistress of the school by  MR Kunchacko Boban and Dr. Harish Pillai. Addressing the participants of the rally Mr Kunchaco Boban called for every body’s support for the noble cause of organ donations. He said organs are needed much more than available today. Drawing attention to the  magnitude of  problem of the  organ transplants in the country  Dr. Harish Pillai, CEO, Aster Medcity  said, ‘The country needs 1.5 renal  and 20,000 kidney  transplants  and   ‘Gift a Life’ through organ donation is very important   for the sake of humanity ’ About 150 cyclists belonging to all walks of life including number of school children   participated   in the ‘Gift a Life’ Cyclothon. Kochi, July 27, 2016: A unique training program that to prepare doctors to counsel patients with Inflammatory  Bowel Disease (IBD) was held at Aster Medcity. The Inflammatory Bowel Disease – Counselling Assistance & Resource for Education (IBD-CARE) training program is an unique initiative which has been developed by the Colitis and Crohn’s Foundation (CCF India) in association with Ferring Pharmaceuticals.Dr Simon Travis  – Professor of Clinical Gastroenterology, University of Oxford inaugrated two day long training program.Trainees from many institutes in Kerala took advantage of this rare opportunity and attended the program. 27 trainees from various medical institutions like Aster Medcity, PVS Hospital, Lakeshore Hospital, Medical Trust Hospital, Rajagiri Hospital, Lourdes Hospital and Amrita Hospital attended and listened with rapt attention as various aspects of Inflammatory Bowel Disease pertaining to this chronic disease and patient care were discussed. Inflammatory Bowel Disease includes a group of chronic intestinal diseases with inflammation of the bowel. The most common types are Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease. The disease causes abdominal pain and diarrhoea and has an unpredictable course with periods of remission and relapses. The chronic nature of this disease and the erratic course often results in patients losing confidence and discontinuing or changing treatment. It is essential in such cases for the treating doctor to counsel the patients.   Dr. G. N. Ramesh, Lead Sr. Asso. Consultant, Center of Excellence in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Aster Medcity said, “This was the first time that a program of this kind was held. The specially developed IBD-CARE program helped the participants understand the need for and the methods available for counselling IBD patients, and to understand and manage the disease while ensuring long term patient adherence to treatment which is key.”   Trainees from many institutes in Kerala took advantage of this rare opportunity and attended the program. 27 trainees from various medical institutions like Aster Medcity, PVS Hospital, Lakeshore Hospital, Medical Trust Hospital, Rajagiri Hospital, Lourdes Hospital and Amrita Hospital attended and listened with rapt attention as various aspects of Inflammatory Bowel Disease pertaining to this chronic disease and patient care were discussed.
